Besides, I wasn't really a big fan of Elain and Nesta being changed by the cauldron or that being the direction the story went. The fact that she was a central character throughout, just didn't do it for me. But the fact that she felt she couldn't tell any of them did not make sense. If nothing else, she should had told Azriel. Totally not cool and it really just didn't fit or make sense for her to do that. And this group considers each other to be a family. Yet by keeping the secret and not opening up about it, she is causing actual harm to one of the others. Yet the secret isn't really a big deal and her group would totally understand and be fine with it. Mor has a "big" secret that she has kept from the group/family for centuries but finally confided in Feyre. She went from a solid, badass, protective, and dependable 2nd to Rhys to being a rude shut in who couldn't do anything or see anything beyond her project of deciphering the book. I know it was to setup a specific storyline for her in this book, but the character departure was a bit too extreme. Amren was very different in book 3 than she was in book 2. A lot of "childhood" things should be able to be left in the past by then. Freshly coming off of a 50 year nightmare is understandable for them to still be upset and processing, but what about those things that happened 500 years ago that are still a central issue of pain and despair? That doesn't make sense.

Sure it sucks for something bad to have happened for any extended time period, but in the grand scheme of things, it isn't that long. For people who are centuries or in some cases millennia old, a year or two or even ten or fifty years is really not that long of a time frame. Also, one thing that continued to bother me through this book and the prior book was the time references not adding up or making sense. But there were several instances when things just didn't seem to flow correctly with either a plot line or a characters' behavior. Some random thoughts, in no particular order: Probably because I read the books back to back, I was able to notice some continuity issues that I wouldn't have otherwise noticed. After absolutely loving book 2, A Court of Mist and Fury, I started A Court of Wings and Ruin within minutes of finishing the other. A court of Wings and Ruin is book 3 of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
